With one Tales on Tour in Edinburgh under our belt, we’re ready to return with an even bigger slate of seminars, distillery meet and greets, tastings, bar tours and more. In Spring 2018, Tales of the Cocktail Tour will be making Scotland its home away from home once again as we welcome cocktail professionals from Europe and around the world for four days of cocktail education and celebration. We’ll also get to know the quirky and cool cocktail culture of Edinburgh even better as we explore the bars and restaurants of this legendary city.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • All working media are eligible. It is recommended that you have a confirmed assignment.

Can I fill out one application for my whole team?

  • Unfortunately, no. Each member of your team will need to fill our their own application to answer all necessary questions.

Do you really check my work examples and references?

  • Yes! As much as we would like to take all applicants, we have a limited number of credentials available. The review is greatly weighted on the content and thoroughness of the application.

2018 Tales on Tour Presenter Compensation Guidelines

What is a Seminar Moderator?

The person submitting seminar idea is the moderator. This person is the leader that takes charge and responsibility for the panel that he or she organizes, and is the main speaker in a seminar. A moderator will be responsible for coordinating notes and presentations between panelists and the Tales of the Cocktail team. Moderators will be responsible for keeping each seminar ‘honest and timely’ on the day of his/her seminar. They will also be in charge of meeting all the deadlines and communicating all those deadlines to their panelists. Moderators can lose their ability to moderate in subsequent years due to unprofessional conduct, missed deadlines or numerous changes. Moderators can only lead and participate in 3 seminars total.

What is a Panelist?

A panelist is someone who is asked by the moderator to be on the panel of their seminar. Panelists are contributors on the topic, and are not involved or responsible in leading, organizing, or coordinating a seminar. There may only be a maximum of 4 (four) panelists in any given seminar for a total of 5 presenters maximum (including the moderator). Additional panelists must be approved by the Director of Education and Tales of the Cocktail Team.

What is the difference between the Moderator and the Panelist?

The Moderator is in charge of all communications between Tales of the Cocktail and their panelists. They are responsible for meeting all their deadlines and communicating what is expected to the panelists. Moderators receive an Honorarium for leading the seminar. Panelists simply present during the seminar.

As a moderator, or panelist at Tales on Tour 2018, you are eligible to receive the following compensations:


Deadline to claim your honorarium: May 11th, 2018

For each session in which you are the sole moderator, you will receive $250 USD. There will be one honorarium given per seminar. In order to receive this honorarium, you MUST send a formal invoice to NOCCPS post-event via email (Caitlin@TalesoftheCocktail.com) or mail (7220 St.Claude Ave. Arabi, LA 70032).

If you would like to donate your honorarium to the “New Orleans Culinary and Cultural Preservation Society” (NOCCPS), then simply do not submit an invoice for your honorarium. Since the NOCCPS is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, your donation is tax deductible. Let us know if you need the appropriate documentation for submitting this with your taxes.

If you wish to give or split your honorarium with your panelist(s), each person must submit their own invoice. Please confirm who will be receiving the honorarium, if it will be split or if you will be donating the honorarium back to NOCCPS.

Travel & Lodging

One of the largest expenses associated with Tales of the Cocktail is the travel and lodging budget we incur with all of the great speakers who are in attendance. In order to manage our costs and allow us to bring in a great selection of speakers, we have set up special compensation to address your travel and lodging needs.


If you are the sole moderator of a seminar, you will be able to book your own travel via any travel website or airline you wish. Simply follow the steps below for reimbursement.

  • Step 1—Book your travel with your chosen airline
  • Step 2—Submit your receipt to Caitlin Castay, Caitlin@TalesoftheCocktail.com
  • Step 3—Upon receipt of your receipt, you will be reimbursed via PayPal

To accommodate the different travel costs from various areas, the allowance for sole moderators will be as follows:

  • $250 USD – UK
  • $1,000 USD – International


  1. Sole moderator— Three nights will be underwritten by NOCCPS at The Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square*
  2. Panelists—Two nights will be underwritten by NOCCPS at The Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square*

An additional night will be underwritten for each additional seminar that a presenter (moderator or panelist) participates in— up to a maximum of FOUR nights. All presenters are responsible for reserving their own lodging.

*Moderators or Panelists who work for Sponsor Companies

By having your sponsor brand underwrite your travel expenses, it allows Tales of the Cocktail to bring in more presenters to Tales of the Cocktail, which makes the festival that much more valuable to the attendees and sponsors. In exchange, NOCCPS is happy to extend an additional comp’d night at one of our partner hotels.
