Tales of the Cocktail Foundation (TOTCF) is proud to welcome a new class of talented, rising star bartenders that will serve as apprentices for the 2019 Tales on Tour – Puerto Rico Special Edition under TOTCF’s Cocktail Apprentice Program (CAP). This year’s class of newly appointed apprentices, all hailing from Puerto Rico, will work alongside some of the world’s most renowned bartenders and spirits professionals during the four-day festival being held March 10-13 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Tales of the Cocktail Apprentice Program was developed in 2008 to provide up and coming bartenders with an opportunity to apprentice under skilled veterans to further hone their craft. Working directly with presenters during seminars and other events, the program gives participants an opportunity to work on large-scale events while learning first-hand about their craft’s history and future trends. Apprentices apply their newly learned skills to their professional careers following Tales of the Cocktail / Tales on Tour.
Tales of the Cocktail Foundation offers opportunities for seasoned apprentices to take on leadership roles, furthering their management skills. The program has four tiers, each identified at Tales of the Cocktail events by the color of their chef coats. With extensive apprentice experience, White Coats are responsible for the strategic management of the entire program while Black Coats support them with the execution of the program. Grey Coats are responsible for the direct management of teams of Red Coats, the first-time apprentices. The tiered structure allows apprentices to continue developing skills that they can utilize to further their careers. It was imperative to TOTCF that the six new Red Coats all hail from Puerto Rico, to support our host community.
