“Normally, I see people who like to unwind in a quiet fashion after their shift, and I have to say that I am completely the opposite,” laughs Shannon Michelle, a Bartender and Creative Assistant at an apparel line developed by and for bartenders out of Jacksonville, Florida.
“I like to turn the music up once the guests are gone, pour myself a drink and expound all of that pent-up energy from a night behind the bar by dancing a bit. It’s my time to let loose and be goofy and candid with my coworkers, and it’s always a really cool bonding experience.”
We’ve got her amazing playlist on Spotify for you in this edition of 6ourbon 7time, and it’s nearly impossible not to get up and shake it all loose with this one.
“The first song on my playlist is Zero by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs,” Michelle says. “Back when I first started going out to nightclubs, this was THE song that got people out onto the dance floor. And not just like one or two people. I’m talking the whole bar. Zero has this iconic 2000s, Indie-drone dance feel to it, with guitar riffs that you could only get from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.”
She follows that one with Foreign Language by Flight Facilities featuring. Jess.
“If the first song on the playlist is made to reel you in, the second song should be an expectation of what’s to come,” she says.
What’s to come in your moment of 6ourbon 7ime is now some 70’s Disco vibe, that remains pretty light and easy going.
Move and Groove is in the Heart might take you back to high school (or to college. We don’t mean to make you feel old), and there’s a lovely Fleetwood Mac moment too on this set. Who doesn’t need more Fleetwood Mac in their pandemic life, right?
Her last song choice is pretty personal.
“I really wanted a song that matched the same energy of the first song on the playlist and came upon LCD Soundsystem’s North American Scum in a saved pile on Spotify. I first heard this song when I attended a college night at a local Club in Jacksonville, and it was the first LCD song I had ever heard. This would tick off a years’ long love affair with their music and my affinity for running directly to the dance floor whenever I hear James Murphy’s voice. From beginning to end, this playlist is a representation of where I came from in the hospitality world, and my love for the best combination on Earth––a delicious cocktail and music.”
