The application period for the 2025 Red Coat apprentice class is now open, running December 11, 2024 – January 31, 2025.
NEW ORLEANS, LA (December 11, 2024) — Tales of the Cocktail Foundation (TOTCF) is excited to announce that the application period for the 2025 Cocktail Apprentice Program (CAP)® Red Coat class is now open, running from December 11, 2024 – January 31, 2025. This prestigious mentorship program offers rising bartenders the opportunity to join a select group of 40 apprentices, who will gain hands-on experience and work alongside top industry leaders at the 2025 Tales of the Cocktail conference, taking place in New Orleans from July 20–25.
Since its founding in 2008, the TOTCF Cocktail Apprentice Program has welcomed over 580 apprentices from across the globe, representing more than 40 U.S. states and 28 countries—including Argentina, Australia, South Korea, Turkey, and beyond. The program offers invaluable, hands-on experience in managing and executing vast, high-volume events at the annual Tales of the Cocktail conference. CAP apprentices play an essential role in the success of Tales of the Cocktail, contributing to its seamless execution year after year.
“The Cocktail Apprentice Program continues to be the leader in team building and mentorship,” said CAP Manager Trevor Kallies. “Each year, we see an increase in first-time attendees at Tales of the Cocktail, and this exposure is definitely driving the global awareness of the CAP program. As we enter our 17th year, while our primary function of producing cocktails for seminars remains unchanged, our focus on building the next generation of bar-community mentors and leaders has become an even greater priority.”
“This is showing up in the applications we receive,” Kallies continued. “In 2024, we saw a record number of Red Coat applications, both in total submissions and unique countries represented. These numbers reflect our dedication to fostering a global network grounded in diversity, inclusivity, and mentorship. I’m continually humbled by the growth and evolution of this program, and we’re all excited to welcome the next cohort of CAPS.”
Once accepted into the prestigious mentorship program, CAP participants join an outstanding community of global hospitality professionals. First-year participants, known as Red Coats, work under the guidance of a CAP Grey Coat mentor to prepare and serve cocktails and tastings for seminars and Foundation-hosted events, including the Spirited Awards, Tales Catalyst, and other signature events.
To qualify as a CAP Red Coat, applicants must be:
- Industry professionals (bartenders, bar managers, barbacks, brand ambassadors, educators, distillers, etc.)
- At least 21 years old by May 1, 2025
- Live anywhere in the world and have a valid Visa to travel to the U.S. (must be secured by April 1, 2025)
Accepted applicants are responsible for their own flights to and from New Orleans, and TOTCF will provide lodging at the conference’s host hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans, meals, and access to events and networking opportunities. TOTCF also continues to support its alumni by offering exclusive scholarships and financial aid opportunities to help further their growth within the industry.
Interested applicants are invited to learn more about the program and fill out the CAP Red Coat application via the TOTCF website. The 2025 CAP Red Coat class will be announced on May 1, 2025.
