Tales of the Cocktail Foundation Announces World’s Sustainable Cocktail Champion Sponsored by Flor de Caña

We’re thrilled to introduce the World’s Sustainable Champion, a bartender competition, proudly sponsored by Flor de Caña Rum. The competition aims to honor the beverage industry’s increasing efforts to cultivate environmentally sustainable practices at large–inspiring bartenders to enact change in their own practices while championing their creativity.

Bartenders from across the world are encouraged to showcase their creativity by crafting cocktails that not only tantalize the taste buds but also prioritize sustainability through the use of eco-friendly ingredients and techniques. Each entry will be judged on its use of sustainable ingredients, environmentally friendly presentation, and storytelling. 

The Tales of the Cocktail Foundation is proud to partner with Flor de Caña, a brand synonymous with quality and sustainability. Together, they strive to amplify the impact of sustainable practices, and encourage the industry to embrace a greener future.

“We are excited to launch the World’s Sustainable Champion bartender competition sponsored by Flor de Caña. This competition reflects our commitment to fostering positive change within the cocktail community by celebrating and rewarding those who prioritize sustainability,” said Taylor Barron, Director of Partnerships at Tales of the Cocktail Foundation.

A committee of global brand ambassadors chosen by Tales of the Cocktails Foundation will virtually judge the entrants of the cocktail challenge and select the semi-finalists who will advance to the Key City Finals. From there, the semi-finalists will advance to the Global Finals in Nicaragua in February 2025.

How to Enter

To participate, entrants can visit www.flordecanachallenge.com. They will be required to submit a cocktail recipe that meets a variety of requirements, including ensuring that the cocktail is served in a sustainable vessel with ingredients being either Fair Trade certified, seasonal, locally produced, and/or derived from food waste or zero waste programs, and more. Together, the recipe, the photo and video will constitute the “Entry.” Entries must be received by April 30, 2024.

Key details of the competition include:

  • Registration Period: Bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts eager to participate can register for the competition starting February 1 through April 30, 2024. This extended registration period provides ample time for entrants to conceptualize and refine their sustainable cocktail creations.
  • Global Recognition: The competition spans the globe, attracting participants from diverse cultural backgrounds. By uniting talent from all corners of the world, the program fosters a global dialogue on sustainability within the cocktail industry.
  • Grand Prize: The winner will receive a trip to Nicaragua, a cash award of $10,000, and the title of “Flor de Caña World’s Most Sustainable Champion” to celebrate the winner’s commitment to be a voice for sustainability in the industry.
