Tales of the Cocktail® return for its 19th year in a hybrid digital and in-person format from September 20-23. Headlining the conference will be the Foundation’s signature educational initiatives featuring more than 60 digital seminars selected by Tales of the Cocktail Foundation’s Education Committee. Sub-divided into three streams of education: Business, Culture, and Beyond the Bar, these committees have worked collectively over the past few months to curate seminars that address the interests, needs, and goals of bartenders from this year’s open call seminar submission process.
Read on as Tess Posthumus – Business Advisory Member and owner of Flying Dutchmen Cocktails & Dutch Couragetalks about the selection process of this year’s seminar slate, our annual theme of COMMUNITY, and lists their must-see digital seminars taking place at Tales of the Cocktail® 2021.
Q: Why are you looking forward to the slated education seminars for Tales of the Cocktail® 2021?
A: It is always a nice moment to brush up on some knowledge and invite new ideas into my mind.
Q: What is your definition of COMMUNITY and why do you think it is an important theme for #TOTC2021
A: Community for me is doing things together and having each other’s back. I think it is very important that the bar community focuses on being a true community in these post-covid times and rebuilding together while supporting each other.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about the “Socialising Saves Lives” seminar?
A: I’m very interested in anything to do with sociology and human behavior, and intrigued to hear about how non-alc could possibly take the role of alcohol in the future.
Q: What interests you about the “SWAG WARS” seminar?
A: I’m wondering what their long-term game plan is and how different style venues can use their vision on gaining additional money flow.
Q: What made you choose “Genuine Engagement – How to genuinely connect with diverse consumers” as one of your must-see seminars?
A: As everyone will be trying to reach guests in post-covid rebuilding times, I’m wondering what different approaches or platforms can be used to actually make it a genuine engagement and not just a numbers/likes game.
Q: What struck you as important about the “Escape – The Drinks Trend of the Year” seminar?
A: I’m hoping this seminar brings a positive view on the post-covid bar trends and offers ways in which to include escapism in more than just tiki.
Q: What fascinates you about the “Cacao: An Understanding of its Origins & Uses” seminar?
A: Personally I’m always a fan of deep-diving into an ingredient or topic. Interested in learning more on cacao.
Q: Why does it just make sense to include “The Secrets to Building a Profitable Business that Empowers Employees and Expands Opportunities” on your list of top seminars?
A: I’m interested to hear another type of voice.
Q: What interested you about “The Needed Evolution in the Return of Bars” seminar?
A: I’m wondering how they see the possibilities and difficulties in the rebuilt period.
Q: What are you most excited about in regards to the “Being the Boss – 2021 Edition” seminar?
A: It’s interesting to hear the possible new ways of doing things.
Add any of these seminars to your agenda, catch up with old friends, learn new techniques, and further your career at Tales of the Cocktail 2021!
